Craig graduated on the Dean’s List from Cal State Fullerton in 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. From 2015 to 2020, he trained at the world-renowned Black House MMA gym in Gardena, CA, honing his skills alongside some of their the best in the industry. For his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) training, Craig studied under Professor Lucas Leite at Checkmat La Habra, CA, and also trained extensively in Combat Submission Wrestling with Erik Paulson from 2007 to 2014. Craig’s primary influence and coach, however, has always been his father, Bruce Wilkerson, under whom he has trained in Muay Thai and MMA since childhood. Bruce not only serves as Craig’s coach but also corners him in all his fights. Currently, Craig trains with former WBC/NABO world champion Alejandro Perez and teaches at American Gym in Costa Mesa, CA.
Craig began his martial arts journey at the age of 5, training under his father in Muay Thai, Savate, Shoot Wrestling, Catch Wrestling, Jeet Kune Do, and BJJ. His father, a longtime instructor under Erik Paulson and a close friend of over 30 years, laid the foundation for Craig’s extensive combat sports expertise. At the age of 12, Craig won the California State Jiu-Jitsu Championships, submitting all of his opponents. At 13, he began wrestling and went on to compete at a high level throughout high school, culminating in a senior year ranking of 5th in the state of California. Despite an injury that kept him out of the state finals, he placed 5th at the California State Freestyle Wrestling Championships and 7th at Junior Nationals in Las Vegas, earning All-American honors.
Craig continued his wrestling career at the Division 1 level at Cal State Fullerton, where he achieved notable victories, including a double-overtime win against an NAIA national champion. He also faced UFC fighter CB Dolloway in a competitive match despite stepping up to a higher weight class. Craig left the wrestling team at the beginning of his junior year to return to martial arts training under Erik Paulson and his father.
Craig currently holds the rank of Coach Level 2 under Erik Paulson in the No-Gi Combat Submission Wrestling system and is a Third Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Erik. Additionally, he holds instructor certifications in STX Kickboxing—a blend of Muay Thai, French Savate, and Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do—under both Erik Paulson and his father. Craig also achieved the rank of Silver Glove in French Savate under Professor Nicolas Saignac, a former French Cup Champion and longtime instructor of Erik Paulson.
In his professional career, Craig has sparred with elite-level boxers at Freddie Roach’s world-famous Wild Card Boxing Gym in Hollywood, CA. As one of the few MMA fighters regularly stepping into the ring with professional boxers, Craig earned respect for his skills and resilience. His extensive training background and competitive experience make him a highly accomplished martial artist and coach.
